It'south a Wuxia story with a female protagonist. It's overall, a rather short (compared to other Chinese translated novels) and fun romance novel. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something interesting pass the time~
four stars, since I experience like information technology dragged on at the finish. It'due south a Wuxia story with a female protagonist. Information technology's overall, a rather brusque (compared to other Chinese translated novels) and fun romance novel. I'd recommend it if you're looking for something interesting pass the fourth dimension~
...moremy chief problem was the length of this novel - i had to have a suspension somewhere in the heart considering information technology was really, just And then Much. i definitely experience like it'll be better off one-half the length but i suppose i do s three.5 | okay. i enjoyed this novel a lot, honestly. i dear the fact that we accept all the wuxia elements but besides the mixture of modern day internet slang/civilization - zhu yao is honestly such a practiced character, it's so refreshing to read well-nigh a strong, smart, and kind female person grapheme. aye merely.
my principal trouble was the length of this novel - i had to take a interruption somewhere in the middle because information technology was really, only So Much. i definitely feel like it'll be better off half the length but i suppose i do see why information technology'due south so long (everything had to develop and connect). besides really sad how some characters never reappeared after a reincarnation/move to some other world like. yeah u have yue ying and yu yan but similar????? little radish and mushmush???? practiced characters i want more :( (too the romance was kinda wack everyone saw it coming miles away but information technology still felt weird and kinda too much in my confront tbh.) lastly. this may but exist me being sensitive but similar? was there really the demand for zhu yao to human action all shook/scandalized whenever one graphic symbol looks similar they similar some other character of the same gender? and unsure if information technology was written like this or if it was the translator'southward choice but damn. why did i take to read the discussion homosexual buddy at least twenty times in the last arc? it merely feels similar the author/translator is making fun of the lgbtq community and saying that being gay is their only defining trait which is. ugly to say the least.
tl;dr: i actually hate when hets add lgbtq characters for the sole purpose of a humour break.
...moreUnfortunately the structure makes it feel incredibly repetetive and truly drags on, as every new 'My Disciple Died Yet Again' is a quirky novel in a format that reminds a lot more of a tv show of several seasons than a book. On one hand, by the separation of "missions" through the arcs, on the other paw, by a writing manner that is rather visual. With its eccentric characters, pop culture references and a heavy reliance on sense of humor over logic, it is a fun and entertaining read. For the nigh part.
Unfortunately the structure makes information technology feel incredibly repetetive and truly drags on, as every new arc comes with a setback in cultivation, new setting, characters etc, at the toll of some more than grapheme evolution. Unfortunately, the plot relies heavily on a main graphic symbol that is goodhearted and lightheartedly violent (I guess... it's for laughs?), only whose master attribute is the ability to non change... at all. And then we have a main character who is possibly not perfect, but still sold as 'ideal person' in many means, which leads to the read dragging on weven more than.
Coming back to it feeling like a written goggle box shows, rather than going towards a goal, the construction of this is more circular. Whenever one thinks there is some actual overarching plot, information technology just reverts back to another new "mission".
Unfortunately the catastrophe does not set up this issue with a really clever tie up of all the events in the previous Arcs, but instead relies on a pretty generic: "Information technology'south all to make the earth a better place through this chosen heroine" logic. The solution relies on a pretty creepy, nigh authoritarian solution, while most side characters are simply dropped.
Leaving aside a lot of pretty offensive terminology in the treatment of both obesity and homosexuality, which are constantly playes for jokes (and for homosexuality beingness unnatural and a problem that needs solving.... great...), it is, if considered as one book, actually a piece of light entertainment.
I admit that under the consitions of writing (regular updates, chapter past chapter on a blog) of these chinese novels, it is maybe a fleck unfair to rate this as I would a 1 volume book, but after reading the works of MXTX (Mo Dao Zu Shi etc), it is clearly possible to still write a plot-heavy, cohesive novel. This is is considerably less professional.
That said it is non horrible, I presume information technology is really hit or miss. If you lot await a novel, even if it'south comedic amusement, to take a satisfactory build upwardly and solution, and so this seems indeed rather sloppy. If you are simply reading it for distraction, focusing on humour, pop-culture references and uncomplicated characters, I am certain this has a lot of potential. I just expected a tiny little fleck more plot and grapheme delelopment in a work of this length. ...more
I enjoyed seeing what kind of new form she'd return in each time. The bige
To be clear, I didn't stop this whole book. There are 12 arcs / 395 capacity total, and I got through the first 6 arcs / 195 chapters. Maybe I will revisit this again anytime, but the whole cycle of reviving and removing the problems in a new mission kinda got former. To be fair, nosotros finally constitute out a little bit more at the end of arc 6, and Realmspirit did promise to spill the beans later Zhu Yao'southward side by side mission, merely who knows.I enjoyed seeing what kind of new form she'd render in each time. The bigender form reminded me a flake of the main graphic symbol in Ranma one/2. The dragon was probably my favorite, given how she was able to subdue all demonic beasts with her presence, including the devil-inhabited rabbit god at the finish. The piece of jade stone was the most interesting, since she kept on catastrophe up with owners she didn't intendance for.
I did go a kick out of the main character's internal monologue. She was quite funny and had a very blunt way of putting things. I read on mainly for her and for the romance. Speaking of which, I kept waiting for the romance to become further forth, and after 195 chapters in, I gave up on Zhu Yao's completely clueless primary, Yu Yan. For case, meet the beneath interaction between them right before I dropped, where Zhu Yao is trying to take off his dress and sleep with him:
Yu Yan took the outer garments, turned to look at her unknowingly, and then approached her. His 2 hands brushed by the sides of her waist, forming a kabe-don posture. He gradually leaned closer… and closer…
And and then…
He put his outer garment on her.
"If you wanted this mystic robe, say so directly."
Crepitation.
Zhu Yao heard the sound of something shattering. That was her dead young maiden's center…
She actually was stupid to the point of piercing through the sky, for assertive that a certain someone could have been aware!
A certain master, however, stabbed her with another knife with a stern await.
"I placed down a special defensive formation on this mystic robe, and regular people aren't able to move it."
Puaaah! A steel knife stabbed right into her heart.
"Though, the size might be a little big for yous."
Puaaah! She received an additional 1000 damage.
"If you sincerely similar it, your main shall help change it to your size tomorrow."
Puaaah! Her heart received long-lasting harm.
"I shall make some others for you while I'm at it also. Mn… You seem to have grown a little fatter."
Puaaah! Her HP was emptied!

I feel similar I could spend some time most how absolutely WILD information technology is, flailing about in the wildernesses of apprentice translations. There's Due south
"My Disciple Died Yet Over again" is 1 of the few titles that popped up multiple times when I started looking for recommendations for female-led xianxia novels (I really liked watching The Untamed, and really liked their female characters, simply mostly came away wanting more of them. Since the novel of that is going to take a while, I idea I'd try a few others.)I experience like I could spend some time almost how absolutely WILD it is, flailing virtually in the wildernesses of amateur translations. There's SO much weird drama, there'due south footnotes that get from passive aggressive (this translator only links to wikipedia, which I call up is hilarious) to like, squeeing translator inserts, or footnotes that just don't exist for some ...more obscure content... merely there's clearly this customs doing a lot of work for gratis on actually intense schedules, which is but :O. I appreciate their work immensely.
ANYway what I am looking for in these xianxia novels (and finding) feels like classic lurid - information technology's incredibly readable, the action moves forth, and (perhaps this is dissimilar) there are grapheme relationships y'all want to see develop. In My Disciple Died Yet Over again there's all those things and also a lot of humor, but oft slapstick/cultural misunderstandings sort of affair. The all-time humor is when it's about someone beingness incredibly sincere and caring and going over the pinnacle. The worst is the characters that are generally but fat jokes. All the same, in that location does appear to be some heart in it, and I appreciate that and besides the competent/attainable translation.
Also this is a serial of 12 books, not one, so I'chiliad going to mark information technology as read/reread for however many books I actually finish.
...moreI quite similar the MC, actually. There's just not much else abo
Dropped at chapter 144/393. I almost dropped it at chapter 30 at first considering it was so so slow, but then it picked up and was great and I had a agglomeration of abdomen agonized laughs. And and so it reset and then got slow again so picked up a scrap, and then it reset. Subsequently the fifth (?) reset I'g only really tired. Like, just thinking about having to go through this for some other 250 chapters makes me want to lie downward in bed for a few days.I quite like the MC, really. There'south simply not much else nigh the plots or other characters that really stands out much for me. I was belongings on for some romance simply I realized that it wasn't going to happen any time soon. Many many many other things would go in the manner and the progress was like watching a huge program loading on an onetime computer: futile and infuriating. I'll reserve my time for something more worthwhile.
...moreIt's a great idea, merely information technology quickly goes from being a parody to being exactly the aforementioned sort of story it was making fun of. Almost halfway through the author loses the plot and stops all grapheme development. By the end information technology feels similar a bad videogame, going from fetch quest to fetch quest. To peak it all, not only it ends in a cliffhanger, the author also left several plotlines hanging from older arcs.

Now this ane is not recommended. It'due south a swell idea, but it rapidly goes from existence a parody to being exactly the same sort of story it was making fun of. Nearly halfway through the writer loses the plot and stops all character development. By the end it feels similar a bad videogame, going from fetch quest to fetch quest. To top it all, not only it ends in a cliffhanger, the author also left several plotlines hanging from older arcs.
But Is Information technology Funny? Only if y'all don't mind the coincidental sexism, homophobia, transphobia and colorism.
